It was founded in 1958. The CISCE is affiliated with more than 2,300 schools across India and around the world. Every year, the Council conducts Board Examinations for Class 10th-12th in February and March. CISCE will conduct boards twice yearly in 2021-22 due to the coronavirus pandemic. National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS)

NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling) is the education board under the Union Government of India. It was created by the Ministry of Human Resource Development of the GoI (MHRD) in 1989 to provide education to all sections of society.

The NIOS, a national board, administers secondary and senior secondary examinations similar to the CBSE or the CISCE. This board also offers vocational programs after high school. NIOS has approximately 3,50,000 students each year, making it one of the most popular open schools in the world. NIOS conducts two board exams annually, in March/April or September/October.
