Tips for Choosing the Best School for Your Child

Published on

Choosing the best school for your child can make a huge difference when it comes to the success of their academic career. There are certainly a lot of great school options, but that can make it difficult to know exactly what to look for in a school in order to make sure that your child gets the best education for their needs, whether they are attending schools in Ahmedabad or elsewhere.

Here are our tips for choosing the best school for your child:

Find a good fit. We recommend being specific about four criteria in order to find the best learning environment for your child. These four criteria include what you want your child to learn, how your child learns best, social needs and practical needs. What you want your child to learn can include the level of academic difficulty as well as the specific subject matter. How your child learns best refers to their particular learning style as well as any learning challenges they might have. Social needs refer to your child’s necessary level of contact with their peers, friends and classmates. Practical matters refer to scheduling, extracurricular activities and more.

Choose a focus. Some schools offer a more diverse range of study than others. If you want your child to receive a background in the arts or an education with a religious focus, we recommend searching for schools that provide this focus. And if you want your child to learn a second language during primary school, then choose a school that includes foreign language as an integral part of the school’s curriculum.

Check out scores. Test scores are a crucial component in figuring out how well students are performing academically at a particular school. We recommend checking ratings for local schools and analyzing schools based on their graduates’ success in higher education, university and the professional fields.

Make a list. We also recommend making a list of all the things you want in whichever school that your child attends. These features should include criteria like great teachers and staff, busy visible children, high expectations, a rigorous curriculum and more.

Visit the school. Another great way to help you choose a school for your child is by touring the schools to meet the faculty and staff and to visit the classrooms. You should be able to visit the teachers, parents and principal to get a great idea of what the overall learning environment looks like, how the faculty and staff relate to students and what the expectations are for parent involvement.

Sit down with the principal. We also recommend having a one-on-one meeting with the school principal during your visit to and tour of the school in order to ask questions about the learning environment and school life. Principals are typically open to meeting with parents and should be fairly open with information about the school, teachers, faculty and staff.

Overall, it is important to trust your gut and choose the school that feels the best to both you and your child.
